St. George's Banner's red cross is the same width both ways. Let's say that the flag is 4 feet by 3 feet. If I want to make this flag so that the white and red regions have the same area, how wide should the red stripe be? (Same question as the above)|||Suppose you have a flag of width a and height b. If St. George's Cross has a width of w, the area of the Cross will be w路a+w路b-w虏 (two rectangles, minus the square in the middle, which is counted twice). The area of the flag is obviously a路b, so you get:
a路b/2=w路a+w路b-w虏 or
w虏-(a+b)路w+a路b/2=0 .
Solve this in w to get a solution for the width.
